Friday night I was able to bind off the back and get started on the Left Front. I was able to finish that up Saturday and get started on the Right front of the sweater. Sunday we drove down to San Jose and I realized that I needed to redo the ribbing for the right front as it should have started with a purl for the ribbing. I spent the drive down reknitting the ribbing section. We had a lovely time at the party and DV~ was super cool and let me drive home with the light on so I could knit on the drive home. (Had I been intelligent, I would have prepped a plain knit hat or something so I could knit in the dark, But I did not and DV~ is a cool guy.) I am using some techniques I learned from my Lucy Neatby DVD's - (Yes owning her entire catalog is going to happen!) I did short rows for the shoulder shaping to create a smooth line rather than that ugly stair step effect and I did the shaping by reducing the stitches every row at the beginning of the neck line for 6 rows rather than every other row 3 times. I much prefer this result. I should have my right front finished either today or tomorrow and then I can work on the sleeves, I will likely knit those at the same time to make sure they are the same length - knitting to a measurement is not difficult, but I want to do it this way. Then I will block (Elsa - Blocking is like ironing the seams as you sew, it give a more polished finish on the clothes being built! *g*), stitch together (Looking up mattress stitches this week on youtube) and then work the finishing band. I am most likely going to use a zipper with this sweater over buttons. I prefer the clean finish from all those wonderful sweaters I found on Ravelry. ( Read more... )
